What this GE vs LG comparison is based on#
The evidence here is two large sets of federal incident reports: 960 CPSC SaferProducts filings naming a component on a GE oven between 2011 and 2026, and 719 doing the same for an LG oven across the same window. Both records are big enough to be read row by row, which makes this one of the more informative pairings in this set.
Almost everything agrees#
Start with the rows that do not separate the two. The control board leads both columns and is a single point apart, 6% of the GE reports against 5% of the LG ones — 57 filings against 36. The motor sits at 0% on both. The thermostat or sensor is a point apart in LG's direction, 2% against 1%.
The heating element and the wiring or power cord are each 2 points apart, 4% of the GE record against 2% of the LG one. Those are real counts on both sides — 42 and 35 GE filings against thirteen apiece for LG — but 2 points on records of this size is a modest difference, and both rows keep the same rank in each column.
The igniter is the exception#

An igniter is a gas-oven component. The bottom of both columns#
Both records thin out to single filings. GE lists a motor and a water valve or line at 0%, one report each. LG lists a motor at 0%, three reports. Rows of that size are the edge of the classification rather than a component profile, and neither column supports a claim there.
Reading the pair together#
For a technician the practical content is nearly identical on both brands: the control board first, then the heat path and the wiring, with the thermostat trailing. The one row worth treating separately is the igniter, and the reason to treat it separately is that it may be describing the fuel mix behind each record rather than the parts themselves.
