GE Profile Gas Range Smells Like Gas — Causes
A GE Profile range that smells of gas needs one question answered first: when does the smell happen? A one-second whiff as a burner lights is normal. A smell while the flame burns steadily, or one present with every burner off, means gas is escaping unburned. Strong odor is a leave-and-call-the-utility situation; a…
When the smell happens tells you a lot#
Split the problem by timing. Smell only at the click-and-light instant: normal, the unburned gas before ignition. Smell throughout cooking on one burner: that burner's cap or seal is letting raw gas by. Smell with everything off: the leak is on the supply side, upstream of the burners. This simple timing test guides everything that follows.
If it's strong, get out first#
A heavy gas smell is not a repair to attempt. Leave the knobs and any light switch untouched so nothing sparks, move everyone outside, and phone your gas provider from there. Come back only after the air has cleared and any remaining smell is faint enough to trace calmly.

Check the cap and burner seal#
For a mild, single-burner odor while cooking, reseat the burner cap. A Profile cap that sits tilted lets a little raw gas slip past its edge before it burns. Lift the cap and head, wipe the seat clean, and set the cap back so it sits flat and does not rock. If a seat looks worn or a gasket is damaged, that part needs replacing to seal properly.
The supply side#
An off-state smell means the burners are not the source. The flexible connector, the shutoff and manifold fittings, and the pressure regulator are where a slow escape hides, and a technician leak-tests each with solution to locate it. This is live gas plumbing and belongs with a professional.

Resolve it ahead of heavy cooking#
Since a gas smell should never wait, and the cooking season brings the range into constant use, deal with it now. Reseating a cap can settle a mild burner-side odor; a persistent smell, an off-state smell, or one you cannot place calls for a leak test. Book an EasyBear technician and we will trace it safely with Profile burner parts ready.
