Look at the electrode insulator#
The Profile's spark electrode is a metal tip inside a ceramic insulator. When that ceramic cracks — from a knock, thermal stress, or age — the high-voltage spark leaks through the crack to ground instead of jumping to the gas, and the module keeps clicking to compensate. Pull the cap and head and examine the whole electrode body, not just the tip, for a hairline crack or a carbon track. A cracked insulator cannot be cleaned; the electrode is replaced.
Rule out moisture and cap seating#
If the electrode looks sound, the everyday causes are next. A wet burner after a boil-over grounds the spark to the cap, and a cap set on crooked steers gas away from the electrode; both produce continuous clicking. Dry the burner thoroughly, clear the ports and the spark gap with a pin, and reseat the cap so it sits flat and spins freely. Confirm the gap is about an eighth of an inch — a gap knocked too wide weakens the spark.

The stuck-switch case#
Turn every burner off and listen. If a Profile clicks with all knobs off, a spark switch behind one of them has stuck closed and is keeping the reignition module powered. Work each knob and see whether the click stops; a switch that stays closed has to be replaced.
Reignition is normal in short bursts#
Profile burners re-spark automatically if a flame is disturbed, so an occasional click while cooking near a draft is by design. The fault is a click that never stops or one that runs with the burners off — that is the difference between the feature working and a real problem.
