Frigidaire Oven F30: Temperature Sensor Reads Too Low
What F30 Detects
F30 fires when the oven temperature sensor (RTD probe) reports a temperature significantly below what the board expects given the current heating state. Specifically, the sensor resistance is higher than the board's upper limit for the current phase. High resistance means the board reads a lower temperature than actual.
Unlike F3 (open circuit, infinite resistance), F30 means the sensor is still connected but its resistance has drifted upward or a high-resistance connection exists in the circuit.

Why Resistance Drifts
Sensor aging. The RTD element's resistance naturally increases with thousands of heat cycles. A sensor that read 1,085 ohms new may read 1,200-1,300 ohms after eight years. The board's acceptable range has a ceiling, and drifted readings eventually exceed it.
Connector corrosion. The sensor connector behind the oven sits in a warm environment. Over years, oxidation on the pin surfaces adds resistance to the circuit. The board reads sensor resistance plus connector resistance, pushing the total above its limit.
Wire insulation degradation. Heat from the oven cavity gradually degrades wire insulation near the sensor pass-through at the rear wall. Partially damaged insulation can create high-resistance leakage paths to the chassis.
Testing
- Breaker off. Access the sensor connector behind the oven.
- Measure resistance at the sensor connector: should be 1,080-1,090 ohms at room temperature. If reading 1,200+ ohms, the sensor has drifted. Replace it.
- If sensor resistance is normal, clean the connector pins with fine emery cloth and electrical contact cleaner. Corrosion adds resistance the board measures as part of the sensor reading.
- Measure resistance at the board connector (with sensor still connected). If board-side reading is significantly higher than sensor-side reading, the wiring has a high-resistance fault.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Consequence of Running With F30
Some board versions allow the oven to continue heating with F30 displayed but at reduced accuracy. The oven may overshoot target temperatures because the board thinks it needs more heat than it actually does. This can overcook food but does not present a safety hazard because F10 provides a separate overtemperature safety net.
FAQ
Is F30 the same as F3? No. F3 means open circuit (no sensor connection). F30 means high resistance (sensor connected but reading too high).
Can cleaning the connector fix F30? Yes, if connector corrosion is adding enough resistance to push the total reading above the board's limit. Clean with fine emery cloth.
Should I replace the sensor proactively before it triggers F30? If the sensor reads above 1,100 ohms at room temperature and the oven is over eight years old, proactive replacement is inexpensive insurance.
