How to Read a Midea Washer Error Code#
The codes split cleanly into two groups once you know what to look for. E1, E2 and E4 are all about water — getting it in, getting it out, and having too much of it. E3 and E6 are about the machine's own hardware, the door lock and the drive motor. E8 belongs to neither: it is about the laundry.
Severity follows consequence, and the water group spreads across it. E4 is high because an overflow means the machine has more water than it should and the level control is no longer in charge. E1 and E2 are medium — a wash that cannot fill or cannot drain is a stalled load, not a hazard. E6 is high because the drive motor is the expensive moving part and running a motor that is reporting a fault is how a repair becomes a replacement. E8 is the low entry, and it is low for a reason worth understanding rather than skipping.
A code can also arrive from more than one cause, and on a washer the split is usually between something restricting flow and something electrical. E2 says the water did not leave in the expected time, which can be a clogged pump filter, a blocked or badly-routed drain hose, or a failed pump. The code names the symptom; where you find it decides whether this is a ten-minute job or a visit.
Which Midea Washer Codes You Can Clear Yourself#
Three codes carry a Yes, and they are the three most people meet.
E1 is fill. Check that both supply taps are fully open, that the inlet hoses are not kinked behind the machine, and that the small filter screens where the hoses meet the valves are not silted up. On hard water those screens block gradually, so the fault arrives as a machine that fills slower and slower until it gives up.
E2 is drain. The pump filter behind the kick panel is the first place to look, and on a washer that has been in service a while it is usually the answer. Then the drain hose: not kinked, not pushed too far down the standpipe, and not looped so low that it siphons.
E8 is the one that is not a repair at all. It is an off-balance or abnormal spin distribution fault, and the machine is telling you the drum could not be brought up to spin speed safely with the load arranged as it is. One heavy item — a bath sheet, a mat, a single pair of jeans — is the classic cause. Open the door, redistribute, and run the spin again.
The other three are marked No. E3 is the door lock, which must work for the machine to run at all; E4 is an overflow, where the level sensing itself is in question; E6 is the drive motor. None of those is a panel to remove on a Saturday.

When a Cleared Code Comes Straight Back#
On this machine a repeat is genuinely diagnostic, because the three owner-clearable codes each mean something different the second time.
E8 coming back after you redistributed the load is no longer about the load. Repeatedly, on ordinary mixed washes, it points at suspension or drum support rather than laundry habits. E2 coming back after you have cleaned the filter and checked the hose has eliminated the cheap causes and left the pump itself. E1 coming back with the taps proven open points at the inlet valve rather than the supply.
For the codes marked No, a repeat means what a repeat always means: cutting power cleared the display and changed nothing. The machine took the same measurement on the next cycle and reached the same conclusion. E6 in particular should not be reset and re-run — a motor fault that returns under load is the machine declining to damage itself further.
Worth noting either way: a code that returns at a different point in the programme each time usually means an intermittent connection rather than a failed component, and that is much easier to trace if you have written down when it happened.

What causes E1 on a Midea washer?#
E1 is a water inlet fault: the machine did not fill as expected. Check the supply taps are fully open, the inlet hoses are not kinked, and the filter screens at the hose connections are clear — on hard water those silt up slowly. If all three are proven good, the inlet valve or its wiring is next, and that is a technician's job.
Is E2 worth repairing, or is it time to replace the washer?#
E2 is a drain fault and it is almost always worth repairing — it is often not a repair at all. Clean the pump filter behind the kick panel and check the drain hose for kinks and siphoning first. If it returns after that, a drain pump sits in the lower half of the documented range, nowhere near replacement territory.
How urgent is E3 once the panel shows it?#
E3 is a door lock or lid fault, marked medium, and it stops the machine rather than endangering it. It is not an emergency, but it is not something to work around either: the lock is a safety interlock, and a washer that cannot confirm the door is secure will not start a cycle at all. It is marked No for DIY.
Can E4 be cleared without opening the cabinet?#
No. E4 is an overflow — the water level is higher than it should be — and it is the high-severity water code on this table. Turn the taps off and stop using the machine. Unlike E1 and E2, this one is not about something you can reach; the level control itself is part of what is in question.
How do I reset a Midea display after the fault clears?#
Cutting power at the socket or the breaker clears the stored code. For E1, E2 and E8 that is often the end of the job, because you have already fixed the cause by hand. For E3, E4 and E6 reset only after the repair, since the machine retests on the next cycle and simply reposts the same code.
