What the symptom is actually telling you#
This boot does more than seal. It steers water during the fill phase, keeps fabric from working its way between the door and the tub while the drum turns, and on honeycomb drum machines it forms the transition between the fixed door frame and the rotating drum. Its inner lip rides close to the drum surface, so distortion anywhere in the rubber shows up as a noise or a snag rather than a leak.

Getting the old boot out#
Disconnect power and the water supply first.
- Open the door and find the outer retaining band — a spring-loaded wire or plastic ring clamping the boot lip to the front panel.
- Release the band spring with the flathead and take the band off.
- Peel the outer lip back off the front panel.
- Remove the inner retaining band where the boot meets the tub.
- Disconnect any hose or drain routed through the boot. Some models carry a drain port in the rubber itself.
- Pull the old boot clear.
Going back together, start at the tub end, not the front. Line the marking on the new boot up with the mark on the tub, secure the inner band, then stretch the outer lip over the front panel opening and clamp it with the outer band. Run your hand right around the boot to confirm it sits evenly with no bunching or folded sections, then run a cycle and watch for leaks.
The inner band is the part that defeats people — it takes real hand strength and patience, and if heavy spring-loaded clamps are not something you want to fight, this is a fair job to hand over. Alignment matters more than speed. A misaligned boot contacts the drum: noise and premature wear on a part you just paid for.
