The reading in two sentences
Read E8000 as this: the control has found a fault in the door sensor circuit. The machine will not start a programme it cannot prove the door is closed for, so treat it as out of use. You can settle whether this is a one-off or a real fault yourself; naming the failed part is not owner work.

| E8000 | There is a door sensor circuit fault/error. |
What else is happening when this shows
- The code appears on a door that latches with a clean click — A good click with a bad reading points straight at the sensing rather than the latch.
- The door feels shut but the latch does not click home — A door that rests against the seal without engaging reads as open to the control.
- NEAR MISS — the door locks and the cycle runs, but the code appears mid-cycle — That is a lock that drops out under vibration, which is a different fault from one that never engages.
What triggers E8000, most likely first
- The door not pushed fully home on its catch — It goes first because it costs nothing: a basket handle or a tall item through the rack holds the door a fraction off its catch, and a fraction is all the switch needs.
- A failed door switch in the latch assembly — The switch operates on every cycle and is the wear item in this circuit, and when it fails the control reads an open door on a closed one.
- A control board that no longer reads the lock circuit — It ranks last because it is the least common of the five and the only one that cannot be confirmed without ruling out the other four first.
The order to work through
- Check nothing in the upper basket is holding the door off — A handle through the rack is the classic cause and it is visible as soon as you look.
- Close the door deliberately and listen for the catch — One firm push rather than a nudge; if the code clears, the fault was mechanical.
- Open and close the door once, deliberately and firmly — If the code clears on a proper close, the fault is mechanical and you have found it in one move.
The reset and the checks that follow it
- Clear the door opening and close it squarely — Take the load back from the door line, then shut the door with one deliberate push rather than a nudge.
About 2 min
- Clear the door line, close the door firmly and restart — Push the baskets fully in first, then close the door with one deliberate movement.
About 5 min
- Wipe the latch, the striker and the seal face — Detergent film and grease on the catch is enough to stop a latch dropping into it.
Tools: cloth, mild detergentAbout 10 min
- STOP HERE if the next move is a meter on the lock terminals — That is the line between an owner check and a service call on this fault.
Before a panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Expect hot water: let a heated cycle cool before opening the door or lifting the filter, and never work round the door interlock to start a cycle.
Where an owner check ends
Call if the latch or the striker is visibly worn, if the harness at the hinge shows chafing, or if the code returns after a full power cycle on a door that closes cleanly.

What is deliberately not here
Treat this as the general Bosch dishwasher reading. It stops short of anything model-specific — part numbers, harness colours, connector layouts and service-mode entry — because those differ by family and a technician takes them from the rating plate rather than from a code. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked from the code index below and is the closer answer.
