What the machine is doing while that light is on#
Auto Sensing changes the shape of the start of a cycle. Instead of filling to a fixed level chosen for you, the washer fills and reads what is in the drum — how much of it there is, and how it is distributed. The light is the announcement of that phase, and the phase takes as long as it takes.
That is why the light so often gets mistaken for a stall. Nothing is spinning, nothing sounds like washing, and a machine that appears idle is easy to read as stuck. It is measuring.

That third row is the one worth remembering. Lifting the lid to check on a machine that seems stuck is the single most common way to make it actually stop, because an unlocked lid suspends both the sensing and the wash.
What to do#
- Leave the lid closed once the cycle has started, and let the sensing phase finish on its own.
- If you have already opened it, close the lid to resume the cycle.
- Choose a fixed water level on the Water Level knob instead of Auto Sensing if you would rather not have a sensing phase at all.
There is no reset in this list because there is nothing to reset. The behaviour is the design.
