Fill codes and drain codes fail differently#
A washer that cannot fill stops early and stays dry. A washer that cannot drain stops late and stays full, which is why F21 tends to be discovered as a tub of standing water rather than as a cycle that never started. The symptom is heavier, and it feels more serious than it usually is.

The two questions#

Kinked and clogged sound similar and behave differently. A kink is visible from behind the machine and disappears the moment you straighten it. A clog is not visible from outside, and the tell is water that drains but drains slowly.
Working through it#
- Pull the washer out far enough to see the whole run of the drain hose, and look for the bend that forms when the machine is pushed back into place.
- Straighten any kink, then run a short cycle and watch whether the water leaves on time.
- If it still drains slowly or not at all, the hose is obstructed rather than pinched, and it needs clearing rather than repositioning.
- Reset the control afterwards: if your washer is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for 5 minutes and then plug the unit back in.
That last step matters because a control that has already posted F21 can keep the code displayed after the drain path is clear. The reset is how you find out whether you fixed it.
