What the display is telling you
F56 means the brand points at the user interface, the touchpad you press, or its wiring. If the keys work normally after a breaker reset, the cooktop can be used; if they stay dead, erratic or press themselves, switch it off at the breaker until it is repaired.

What you notice alongside F56
- Keys do not respond — The touchpad is not registering presses.
- Keys respond only after several presses — A weakening touchpad or connection.
- A key acts without being touched — A touchpad fault to report; switch off at the breaker.
- NEAR MISS: the panel has a pan or spill on it — Pressure on the panel is a different code; clear it first.
What triggers F56, ranked
- Touchpad failed — The most common cause: the touch electronics under the glass wear or fail.
- Ribbon or harness connection — Second: a loose or corroded touchpad cable.
- Moisture or residue — Third: liquid or a film on the panel, or moisture at its edge.
- Power event — Last: a passing surge.
Diagnostic order
- Clean and dry the panel — Removes residue and moisture as causes.
- Breaker reset — Restarts the touchpad cleanly.
- Test each key — Dead, slow or self-pressing keys are worth noting.
- Recall any spill or recent work — Spills and service point at the edge seal or the cable.
Reset and owner-safe checks
- Clean and dry — Wipe the controls with mild soap and water, then dry with a microfiber towel.

- STOP here if the next check needs a panel off — Anything behind a panel is a power-off technician job, and the tests that follow it are made on live circuits.
Safety first
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Keep water away from the controls while the cooktop is powered, and never lift the glass top to look underneath.
When a reset is not enough
Call when keys stay dead or erratic after a clean, dry panel and a reset, and straight away if a key acts by itself. Touchpad and cable work happens under the glass with the power off.
