What the display is telling you
F36 means there may be a problem with the temperature sensor fitted to one of the induction coils. That zone cannot protect itself from overheating without it, so stop using the affected zone; the others may still work.

| F36 | There may be a problem with a temperature sensor on an induction coil. |
What you notice alongside F36
- One zone refuses to start, or stops after a short time — The control will not run a coil it cannot monitor.
- The code appears with a particular zone — That points at that coil’s sensor.
- The zone overheated or boiled dry before the code — A sensor stressed by real heat.
- NEAR MISS: every zone shows the code — That points at the power board or control, not a single coil sensor.
What triggers F36, ranked
- Coil sensor failed — The most likely cause: the sensor under the coil reads open or shorted.
- Sensor connector loose — Second: a loose or corroded sensor connection.
- Real overheating of the coil — Third: a pan boiled dry or a long high-power cook drives the coil hot, and the sensor reports it.
- Power board reading — Last: the board that reads the sensor.
Diagnostic order
- Identify the zone — Run each zone in turn.
- Let the cooktop cool and retry — A real overheat clears once cool.
- Breaker reset — Rules out a one-off reading.
- Technician measures the sensor — Under the glass, with the power off.
Reset and owner-safe checks
- Zone test — Run each zone in turn with a pan of water and note which one shows the code.
Tools: pan of waterAbout 10 min
- Cool down — Let the cooktop cool fully, then retry the zone.
About 30 min
- Breaker reset — Switch the breaker off for a minute, then on.
About 2 min
- STOP here if the next check needs a panel off — Anything behind a panel is a power-off technician job, and the tests that follow it are made on live circuits.
Safety first
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Keep water away from the controls while the cooktop is powered, and never lift the glass top to look underneath.
When a reset is not enough
Call when the same zone shows the code after cooling and a breaker reset. The coil sensor sits under the glass with the coil, and replacing it means lifting the cooktop with the power off.

Scope of this reading
The reading above covers Amana electric and induction cooktops with touch controls. It does not cover Amana gas cooktops, Amana ranges, whose surface codes are listed with the oven codes, or sister brands on the same platform, whose lists can read differently. A model-specific page for F36, where one exists, is the more specific answer; none exists yet, so check the use-and-care guide for your exact model before ordering any part.
