Wolf Gas Stove Burner Won't Ignite: Causes & Fix
A Wolf gas burner that will not light almost always comes down to no spark — a wet or dirty electrode, or a stuck switch or dead spark module — or no gas reaching the burner, from a clogged port or a supply cut off at the valve. If the burner clicks but never catches, focus on the gas and the port; if there is no…
Spark, but no flame#
If you hear the burner click but it will not light, the spark is working and gas is the problem:
- Clogged burner ports. Boil-overs and grease plug the slots around the burner head so gas cannot reach the spark evenly. The most common cause.
- A cap off its seat. A burner cap knocked askew during cleaning moves the flame path away from the electrode.
- Gas turned off or low. A shutoff valve behind the range left partly closed, or an empty propane supply, starves the burner.
Click, but check the spark too#
If there is no click at all, the ignition side is at fault:
- A wet or dirty electrode. Moisture or spatter on the ceramic tip stops a clean spark. Dry and wipe it.
- A stuck or dead switch. The switch behind the knob may not be closing to call for a spark.
- A failed spark module. No spark on any burner points to the shared module.

What to check#
Let the burner cool, lift the cap and head, and clear each port with a straightened paper clip. Wipe and dry the electrode, reseat the cap square, and confirm the shutoff valve behind the range is fully open. If it clicks but will not light after a clean, or does not click at all, the switch, module, or gas valve needs a technician.
Before the holiday cooking season#
A burner that will not light is a headache in a busy holiday kitchen. Clean the ports and dry the electrodes now so every burner lights first time before the cooking days. If a burner still will not catch after a clean, book a visit and a technician will test the spark module and gas valve.
