Speed Queen Washer oF: Overflow Condition — Emergency Water Level Response
The oF code indicates the washer detected water level above the maximum safe threshold. This is a critical safety code — when oF triggers, the machine immediately energizes the drain pump regardless of cycle state and locks out the fill valve. The door/lid locks to prevent opening with high water.
What Causes oF
Stuck inlet valve: The most common cause. The valve's plunger mechanism failed to close when de-energized, allowing continuous water flow. Mineral deposits, debris, or a failed spring mechanism keeps the valve partially or fully open.
Pressure switch/transducer failure: The device monitoring water level failed in a way that did not detect rising water until the overflow sensor triggered. The normal fill cutoff never activated.
Control board relay welded: The relay controlling the inlet valve fused its contacts shut, keeping the valve energized regardless of board commands.

- The machine should already be draining (automatic response to oF)
- If not draining, turn off water supply valves immediately
- Check for floor water overflow
- Do not try to open the door/lid until the water level drops below the lock threshold
Diagnosis After Draining
- Unplug the washer
- Access the inlet valve. Inspect for debris in the valve seat
- Test solenoid resistance: expect 500-1000 ohms. Normal resistance does not rule out a stuck plunger
- Check the pressure switch/transducer: blow gently into the air tube — should click at a specific pressure
- Inspect the board relay: listen for relay click when starting a fill cycle (with the old valve disconnected to prevent another overflow)
