Speed Queen Washer E2: Water Temperature Thermistor Fault
E2 on a Speed Queen washer means the control board received an out-of-range reading from the water temperature thermistor. The Quantum Touch control continuously monitors the NTC sensor to manage water temperature during wash cycles. E2 triggers when the sensor reports a value implying temperature below 14F or above 185F — both physically impossible for wash water.
Speed Queen's Temperature Monitoring
Speed Queen uses temperature sensing primarily for:
- Hot/cold water mixing accuracy (models with internal heater)
- Cycle timing adjustments based on water temperature
- Steam cycle management (models with steam option)
The NTC thermistor is mounted on the outer tub, in contact with wash water through the tub wall. Expected resistance: 50k ohms at 32F, 10k ohms at 77F, 2k ohms at 150F.

Testing
- Unplug the washer
- Access the thermistor (rear panel removal, sensor on outer tub surface)
- Disconnect the 2-pin connector
- Measure resistance: expect 8-12k ohms at room temperature
- OL = open sensor. Below 500 ohms = shorted. Normal = wiring or board
