Samsung ovens run a closed loop: a thermistor at the rear cavity wall reads the temperature, the control board compares it to your target, and it switches the element or gas burner to match. Each code names where that loop broke, so note the full code before touching anything. Wi-Fi models also log the code in the SmartThings app even after the display clears it.
What the common codes mean#
- SE / SE1 — temperature sensor out of range. The thermistor reads open or shorted. At room temperature a healthy Samsung sensor measures roughly 1,080 to 1,100 ohms; a reading far outside that means a new sensor.
- E-08 — bake-element circuit fault. The element or its wiring has lost continuity, so the oven cannot reach heat.
- E-27 — over-temperature shutdown. The cavity exceeded a safe limit, usually from a shorted sensor or a welded control relay, and the board shut things down.
- C-21 — stuck key. A button on the touch panel is reading as pressed; grease or a swollen membrane is the usual cause.
- Door-lock codes. A separate family flags the self-clean latch motor when it fails to lock or release.

Clear it, or replace the part#
A single stray code often clears with a one-minute power cycle at the breaker. A code that comes straight back is real. Minor temperature drift can be trimmed with the built-in calibration offset, adjustable about thirty-five degrees either way from the panel, but a sensor reading well out of range or a repeatedly tripping over-temperature code is a parts job, not a calibration one. These ovens sit on a 240-volt circuit (electric) or a 120-volt supply (gas), so board work is best left to a technician.

An error code that locks the oven the morning you are due to roast is the worst possible timing. If a code has been flickering, chase it down now — clear it, read whether it returns, and have the sensor or element checked while there is time.
