What an owner can act on#
The control board is judged by behaviour rather than by opening anything. A panel lighting selections nobody made, a cycle restarting or switching programme unprompted, a machine that fills or spins with the lid raised, a keypad answering only some presses, or a warm-plastic smell after a run all belong to one signal. Cut power at the breaker and leave it off — a lid-lock or fill circuit behaving unpredictably is not something to test by running another load, and a machine that fills unattended is a flooded floor rather than a laundry problem.
Wiring is second here and the check costs nothing. A washer draws a heavy starting current, so look at the cord where it leaves the cabinet and at the plug face for a flattened or cracked jacket, discoloured insulation, or heat marks, and confirm the machine is in a wall outlet rather than on an extension lead. A breaker that trips when the machine reaches spin is describing a condition and not a nuisance.
The drain pump and hose announce themselves as water that should not be where it is. Standing water at the end of a cycle while the pump audibly runs usually means a blocked filter or a kinked, crushed or high-looped drain hose behind the machine; a rattling or grinding pump often means something hard has reached it. Clear the filter and check the hose run rather than repeating the cycle.
