- Disconnect power at the outlet or breaker before any inspection.
- On a new install, confirm the rear shipping bolts were removed — leaving them in causes violent shaking.
- Run a spin with a balanced load and confirm the machine is level, adjusting the feet until none rock.
- On a front-load, check the shock absorbers for wear and replace them as a pair if the tub moves freely.
- On a top-load, inspect the suspension rods for a broken rod letting the tub drop.
- Listen for a growing rumble under spin, which points at a worn drum bearing.
Prevent the repeat#
Balancing loads and keeping the washer level are the two simplest ways to stop vibration and to spare the shocks, rods, and bearing from the extra force the heavy counterweight creates when the unit is not level.
