How an LG dryer turns the drum#
LG DLEX and DLE dryers use a thin multi-rib belt that wraps the drum and is kept tight by a spring-loaded idler pulley, all driven by one motor that also spins the blower. Because a single belt and motor do the work, a break or a seizure anywhere in that chain leaves the drum stationary even while the motor hums — the tell that power is reaching it.

Broken drive belt (40%). LG drum belts are thin multi-rib belts that dry out and snap after years of thermal cycling and friction. With a broken belt the motor hums and the drum spins freely by hand with no resistance. The belt is replaced and routed correctly around the drum, motor pulley, and idler. Idler pulley failure (25%). The spring-loaded idler keeps the belt tensioned. When its bearing seizes or the spring breaks, the belt slips off and the drum stops, often after a squeal. The idler is inspected and replaced, and it is good practice to fit a new belt at the same time. Seized drum rollers (20%). DLEX dryers ride the drum on support rollers, and a seized roller bearing locks the drum in place while the motor still runs. If the drum is hard to turn by hand, suspect the rollers and replace them as a set. Motor failure (10%). The motor turns both drum and blower. A winding failure means no operation at all — no hum, nothing — while a seized bearing can jam it. The motor is tested and replaced if dead. Door switch not registering (5%). If the door switch does not confirm the door is shut, the board blocks all operation, so nothing starts and a dE code may show. The switch is tested and replaced.
