How to Replace a Samsung Dryer Door Handle

Step 1: Confirm the diagnosis#

Verify the failure before buying: a broken handle, a door that will not stay closed, or a latch that will not release. Samsung's Smart Care app reads error codes through your phone camera pointed at the display. If you are checking related electrical parts while open, a good heating element reads 10-20 ohms and a good thermal fuse shows continuity at 0 ohms.

Step 2: Order the correct Samsung part#

Find the model number on the label inside the door frame or the rear rating plate. DV-prefix dryers are electric and DVG-prefix are gas, and the model number sets exact part compatibility. Order the door handle latch catch assembly from Samsung Parts or an authorized supplier.

Step 3: Access the door components#

The door parts sit on the front-panel path. Remove the top panel (2 Phillips screws at the rear, then release the spring clips with a putty knife), disconnect the door switch wires, and remove the front panel screws (2 at the top and, on some models, 2 at the bottom). Support the drum with a block before the front panel comes off.

Step 4: Remove the failed handle and latch#

With the panel free, release the handle-latch assembly: disconnect any connector by pressing its tab and pulling straight out, then remove the mounting screws holding the assembly. Note how the latch spring and catch sit so the new one goes in the same way.

Step 5: Install the replacement#

Seat the new handle latch assembly in the original orientation — Samsung parts use tabs, notches, and keyed connections that prevent a wrong fit — and secure the mounting hardware before reconnecting any wires.

Step 6: Test before full reassembly#

With panels and covers back in place for safety, restore power and run a timed heat cycle for 5 minutes. Confirm the door latches and releases cleanly, the drum turns smoothly, there is no unusual noise, and no error code appears. Power off and finish any remaining reassembly.
