GE Oven Fd: Door Lock Switch Reporting Contradictory State
Fd means the lock position switch reports a state contradicting what the ERC expects. Examples: ERC commanded lock but switch reads unlocked. Or ERC never commanded lock but switch reads locked. The discrepancy between expected and reported state triggers Fd.
Fd vs F9: Sensing vs Mechanics
- F9: Lock motor tried but mechanism did not reach target position. Mechanical failure
- Fd: Position switch reports wrong state regardless of motor operation. Sensing/electrical failure
Fd can appear without any lock operation — for example, if the switch erroneously reads 'locked' at power-up when the door is open.

Root Causes
Position switch stuck: Grease, residue, or heat damage causes the microswitch to stick in one state. It does not toggle when the lock lever moves through its travel.
Switch wiring short: Wires from the switch pass through high-temperature zones. Melted insulation creates shorts that make the switch appear to be in a fixed state regardless of actual lever position.
Lock lever misalignment: After a previous repair or forced manual unlock, the lever's resting position may be 1-2mm off from where the switch triggers. The lever looks correct visually but does not activate the switch.
Testing
- Power off. Access lock assembly
- Locate the position microswitch on the lock mechanism bracket
- Move the lock lever manually through full travel. Listen for switch clicks at each end
- Multimeter on continuity: verify switch changes state cleanly at locked and unlocked positions
- If switch works during manual test but Fd persists, check wiring for shorts between switch and ERC

Parts and Pricing
| Part | Cost |
|---|---|

Safety Note
Do not use self-clean with Fd active. If the switch reports incorrect states, the safety interlock is unreliable. The oven might heat to 880-930F believing the door is secured when it is not.
