Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. On a built-in dishwasher the supply is not switched at the door, so the breaker is the only reliable off. Leave the door latch switch wired as it is: it stops the pump and the heater the moment the door opens. Bail before you go under the machine, and never reach blind into a sump you have not lit.

Call when the sump and inlet are clear, the hose is sound, and the pump makes no sound during a drain attempt — that is the pump or its circuit under the tub. Call promptly either way if standing water has been in the tub for more than a day or two with a full load in it, because the tub is the smallest part of that problem.
