Frigidaire Washer E54: Motor Relay Fault
E54 vs. E52
E52 means the motor runs but the board cannot verify speed (tachometer issue). E54 means the board's relay that switches power to the motor is not functioning correctly. The motor may not receive power at all.

Cause
The motor relay on the main control board has failed: welded contacts, open coil, or erratic switching behavior. This is a board-level fault.
Diagnosis
- Unplug. Disconnect the motor power connector.
- Measure motor winding resistance: expect 2-10 ohms between power leads. Infinite means motor winding is open.
- If motor is good, the board relay is the failure.
- If motor shows very low resistance (under 1 ohm), it has a short that may have damaged the relay. Replace both.

FAQ
Can I verify the relay without replacing the board? A technician with board-level testing equipment can test relay continuity and coil resistance. Most homeowners replace the board based on motor-good + E54 diagnosis.
E54 and E52 together. What does that mean? Both codes together suggest a comprehensive motor circuit failure. The relay may have damaged the motor, or vice versa. Test both components.
