What this Frigidaire vs Samsung comparison is based on#
This page counts two federal complaint records: 273 CPSC SaferProducts incident reports naming a component on a Frigidaire refrigerator between 2011 and 2026, and 1,556 doing the same for a Samsung refrigerator across the same window. Every share belongs to its own column. Neither total is a count of refrigerators sold or in service, so neither supports a rate.
The Samsung record is the largest in this comparison set by a wide margin — nearly six times the Frigidaire one — which means its shares are stable and its small rows are still built on dozens of filings.
One row takes nearly half the Samsung record#
The ice maker is named in 46% of the Samsung reports: 715 filings out of 1,556. Nothing else in that column reaches 5%. That is the most concentrated result on any page in this set, and it is not a small-sample effect — 715 is a larger number of filings than most brands have reports in total.
The same component leads the Frigidaire record too, at 28%, which is 77 of 273. So both records agree that the ice maker is the leading subject of complaint, and disagree by 18 points about how far ahead it is.
That gap is the page's headline, and it is worth being careful about what it can mean. A complaint record measures what owners chose to report. An ice maker that leaks, jams or floods produces a visible household event; one that quietly stops making ice may produce a service call and no federal filing at all. A brand whose ice makers fail in more reportable ways will show a higher share without necessarily failing more often.
The compressor runs the other way#

The 46% ice maker row is measured well enough that it will not move; whether it reflects how often the part fails or how often its failure is worth reporting is a question no amount of additional filings can settle. The Frigidaire column has the opposite problem in miniature: its rare rows are single reports, so its shape below the fourth row is barely measured at all, though it is describing the same kind of thing.
Practically, that means the two columns should be read at different depths. Samsung's is legible to its 1% rows. Frigidaire's is legible to about its fourth, and everything under that is a handful of submissions.
The bottom of both columns#
Below that, both records thin out in the ordinary way. Frigidaire lists a motor at 2%, a defrost system at 1%, a condenser and a heating element at 1%. Samsung lists a motor, a condenser and a water valve at 1%, and a defrost system, a heating element and a drain pump or hose at 0%, the last on a single filing. Single-report rows sit at the edge of the classification and carry no argument in either column.
Reading the pair together#
Both point first at the ice maker, and on a Samsung that pointer is much stronger.
