Frigidaire Oven F10: Runaway Temperature -- Safety Alert
Immediate Action Required
F10 is Frigidaire's overtemperature code. The board detected the oven cavity exceeding its safety threshold (typically 650F during a 350F bake command) despite commanding the heating elements off. The oven is overheating because the hardware is not responding to the board's shutdown command.
If the oven feels unusually hot: Turn off the circuit breaker immediately. Do not wait for the code to clear. F10 represents an active overheating condition.
If the oven is no longer hot: The board successfully stopped the overheat by cutting all relay outputs, but the root cause still exists and must be repaired before using the oven again.

Three Causes
1. Bake or broil relay welded closed (70% of F10 cases). The ERC board uses relays that carry 15-20 amps of element current. Over years of switching, contact surfaces pit and eventually weld together during an arc event. A welded relay delivers continuous power to the element regardless of board commands.
How to confirm: Pull the breaker. Let the oven cool. Restore power but press nothing. If an element begins glowing within five minutes, the relay feeding it is welded.
2. Temperature sensor drifted high (20%). If the sensor's resistance has drifted upward (not fully open, which causes F3), the board "thinks" the oven is cooler than reality. It keeps heating because perceived temperature is below setpoint. Actual temperature climbs past the overtemperature threshold.
Test: at room temperature, sensor should read 1,080-1,090 ohms. Reading above 1,200 ohms indicates drift.
3. Wiring fault (10%). Element receiving power through an unintended path due to insulation breakdown.
The Quick Relay Test
- Pull the breaker. Open the oven. Find where the bake element wires pass through the rear wall.
- From behind, disconnect ONE wire from the bake element terminal.
- Restore power. Wait five minutes.
- If F10 does not return, confirmed welded relay. Replace the board.
- If bake tests normal, repeat for the broil element.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Safety Until Repaired
Keep the breaker OFF. An oven with a welded relay heats uncontrollably whenever power is connected, even with controls showing "off." If you must use the stovetop on a range, monitor the oven door temperature by touch. Warmth without activation means power cycle the breaker immediately.
The Real Cost of DIY
Average DIY attempt: $150-400 in tools you may use once, plus the risk of further damage. Our diagnostic visit costs $0 — we find the problem and give you an honest quote.

FAQ
Is F10 a fire risk? An oven with a welded relay can heat indefinitely. The high-limit thermostat (backup safety) trips at approximately 600-650F. However, relying on a backup device is not acceptable practice. Repair the primary failure.
Can a power surge cause F10? Indirectly. A voltage spike can weld relay contacts through arc energy during switching.
F10 appeared after self-clean. Related? Self-clean cycles put maximum stress on relays (sustained high current) and temperature sensors (900F for hours). Post-self-clean F10 is not uncommon on units over eight years old.
F10 requires same-day diagnosis. Our technicians verify relay status and carry replacement boards. Book urgent repair.
