E1, E2, E4 and E5 are sensors reporting on four different places — the fresh-food compartment, the freezer, the defrost circuit, and the room the appliance stands in. Ed is the display and the main board losing track of each other. Only EF names a moving part.

The severity column tracks how quickly the fault reaches your food. E2 and E4 are high because the freezer side and the defrost circuit are where a wrong reading turns into thawed food or an evaporator sealed in ice. EF is high for the same reason from the other direction: if the evaporator fan is not moving air, the cold has nowhere to go. E1 is medium, and E5 is the only low entry in the table — the ambient sensor watches the kitchen, not the cabinet, so a fault there skews how hard the appliance works rather than what it is holding.

The same code can also arrive from more than one direction. A sensor code means the control received a value it cannot believe, which can be the sensor element, the harness running back through the cabinet, or the board's own input. On a refrigerator the harness is a real suspect, because it spends its life crossing between a cold box and a warm one.

Which Haier Refrigerator Codes You Can Clear Yourself#

Every entry in the DIY column reads No, and on a sealed, always-running appliance that is what you would expect. There is no filter to rinse and no tap to open here — the sensors and the fan sit behind interior panels, and the defrost circuit is behind the evaporator itself.

What is worth doing before the visit is observing, because on a refrigerator the symptom often tells you more than the code. Note which compartment is actually warm and which is holding. Note whether you can hear a fan running when the door has been shut a while. Note whether there is frost building on the back wall of the freezer, and whether the appliance seems to run constantly or barely at all. A technician arriving with that picture can separate a bad sensor from a bad reading of a good sensor much faster.

The one urgent action is not a repair. If the freezer side is warming, move what you can to another appliance now rather than after the diagnosis. That is a food-safety decision and it does not wait on parts.

When a Cleared Code Comes Straight Back#

A refrigerator gives a returning code nowhere to hide. A dishwasher can clear a fault at the end of a cycle and look fine until the next wash; a refrigerator is always in its cycle, so the same measurement is retaken continuously and a real fault reappears almost immediately.

That is why cutting the power to clear a Haier display is the least useful diagnostic step available. It discards the code and changes nothing the sensor is reporting. Worse, it hides the thing you actually need, which is how quickly the code came back — an immediate return and a return after several hours point at different faults.

Watch for one specific sequence: a defrost fault that is cleared and returns, followed by the fan code. Those two are related in the obvious physical way. If the defrost circuit is not clearing frost from the evaporator, the fan ends up fighting ice, and the appliance will keep telling you so in whichever order the sensors get there first.

How do I reset a Haier display after the fault clears?#

Once the fault has actually been repaired, cutting power at the socket or breaker clears the stored code and the display comes back normally. On a refrigerator there is no cycle to complete first.
