This is the repair where labour rather than the part decides the answer: on most of these cabinets the drum and belt have to come out to reach the motor, so an identical motor is a sensible fix in one design and a poor one in another. Each guide first separates a dead motor from the things that impersonate one. A dryer that hums without turning is often a seized idler or a worn drum roller loading the motor past its starting torque. A dryer that quits mid-cycle and restarts once cold is a thermal overload doing its job. The check order is belt and rollers first, motor last — and where the rollers are worn, they are replaced with the motor rather than on a second visit.

Nothing in this repair reaches gas or refrigerant, but the terminal block inside the cabinet stays live until the circuit is off at the panel, and the drum has to be supported on the way out rather than dropped. A motor that failed with a burnt smell and a scored shaft was dragging on something, and fitting a replacement without finding that is a short-lived repair.
