The reading in two sentences
Read F17 as this: the water supply time has been exceeded. There is little point running it: it will stop at the same place until water arrives in the time the control allows. You can settle whether this is a one-off or a real fault yourself; naming the failed part is not owner work.

| F17 | These error codes indicate that the water supply time has been exceeded. |
What else is happening when this shows
- The fill sounds thin, or you hear nothing at all — A trickle is a restriction; silence points at the valve or its circuit.
- The fault appeared after plumbing work — A tap left part closed is the commonest single cause after any work under the sink.
- NEAR MISS — water is arriving and the code still shows — That points at level or flow sensing rather than at the water itself.
What triggers F17, most likely first
- The tap not fully open — It goes first because it is free and because it is what most of these turn out to be: a tap turned down during other work passes enough water to look normal at a sink and not enough to fill a machine in time.
- A loaded inlet filter screen — The screen at the valve catches grit from the supply and fades the fill over months, which is why the fault feels gradual rather than sudden.
- A failed inlet valve or a sensing fault — Last: a valve that no longer opens and a sensor that cannot see the water it has produce the same code, and both need the appliance opened.
The order to work through
- Run a nearby tap while the machine tries to fill — Weak flow at both puts the problem in the house rather than the machine.
- Turn the tap to its stop and check it moves freely — The cheapest check available and the one that resolves most of these codes.
- Open the tap fully by hand and check it turns freely — The cheapest check available and the one that resolves most of these codes.
- Body: Use the sound of the fill to split the fault — a trickle is a restriction and silence is a valve or a circuit.
The reset and the checks that follow it
- Open the supply tap fully and run the cycle again — To its stop, not most of the way. Then start a fresh cycle rather than resuming the failed one.
About 10 min
- Open the tap fully, straighten the inlet hose and start a fresh short programme — Start a new programme rather than resuming the failed one, so the control gets its full allowance.
About 30 min
- Pull the appliance out and straighten the inlet hose — Check the whole run, including where it passes behind a foot or against a wall.
About 20 min
- STOP HERE — the screen, the valve and the sensing are inside — All three need the water off and the appliance open, which is service work.
Before a panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the supply tap before touching a hose, expect standing water when a filter comes out, and never work round the door interlock.
Where an owner check ends
Call at once if water escapes anywhere, or if the appliance fills when it has not been asked to.
Other codes on a Bosch washing machine
What is deliberately not here
Treat this as the general Bosch washing machine reading. It stops short of anything model-specific — part numbers, harness colours, connector layouts and service-mode entry — because those differ by family and a technician takes them from the rating plate rather than from a code. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked from the code index below and is the closer answer.
