Amana Washer FH: Cancel First, Then Diagnose
FH on an Amana front load washer indicates that there is a water inlet problem, which is no or insufficient water supply.

The first instruction is to stop the machine#
Most troubleshooting lists begin with something to inspect. This one begins with something to cancel: select PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle, then unplug the washer or disconnect power.
There is sense in that order. A washer sitting in a stalled fill is holding a cycle it cannot complete and will keep trying, so the useful first move is to take it out of that state rather than to start pulling hoses while it is mid-attempt. Cancel, kill the power, and you are working on a machine that is genuinely at rest.

Then the supply questions#
| Question to answer | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Are both hot and cold water faucets completely turned on? | The washer expects both supplies, and a partially closed faucet reads as insufficient rather than absent |
| Are the screens at the inlet hose connection to the washer clogged? | The restriction sits exactly where the hose meets the machine, which is easy to reach and easy to overlook |
| Are the water inlet hoses kinked? | A hose flattened behind the machine passes far less water than it looks like it should |
Those three are the whole outside-the-cabinet checklist, and between them they explain the majority of FH reports.
The order to work in#
- Select PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle.
- Unplug the washer or disconnect power.
- With the machine dead, check both faucets, the inlet screens at the washer connection, and the hoses for kinks.
- Restore power and run a fill to see whether the machine gets the water it asked for.
Doing this with the power off is not a formality. It is what turns a check into a clean test, because the washer is not attempting anything while you are working behind it.
Safety First — Know the Risks
High-voltage components and pressurized water lines create flood and shock risk. A single loose fitting can cause thousands in water damage. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Is FH worth fixing?#
Nearly always, and nearly always for free. Every named cause is a supply-side condition you can correct with your hands: a faucet, a screen, a hose. None of them is a component failure and none of them requires a part.
Where FH stops being free is when the supply is confirmed good and the code returns anyway. The part associated with this code is the water inlet hose, and beyond it the question moves inside the machine — which is the point at which measurement beats replacement, because a washer that reports insufficient water and a washer that cannot sense water look identical from the front panel.
Book a proper fill test#
If your Amana washer posts FH with both faucets open, clear screens and straight hoses, an EasyBear technician can measure the actual fill and tell you whether the water or the sensing is the problem. Book online.
