Amana Washer F8 E1: Water Did Not Fill to Target Level in Time
F8 E1 means the tub did not reach the required water level within 13 minutes of the fill valve opening. The board opened the valve and monitored the pressure transducer — the target level was never reached.
Supply-Side Checks First
Both Faucet Valves Open?
Behind the washer, both hot and cold supply valves must be fully open. A common scenario: someone serviced the plumbing and reopened only one valve.
Quick test: Disconnect fill hoses at the washer. Run each valve into a bucket. Both should produce strong, full-volume flow.
Inlet Screen Filters
Inside the fill valve inlet where hoses connect, small mesh screens catch sediment. Sacramento hard water (12-20 grains) clogs these in 2-4 years. Clean: Turn off valves. Disconnect hoses. Use needle-nose pliers to pull screens out. Soak in vinegar. Reinstall.

Fill Valve Testing
The fill valve is an electrically-operated solenoid. Test the coil:
- Disconnect the valve connector. Measure resistance: 900-1,100 ohms expected per coil.
- Infinite = coil burned out. Replace valve (W10853654, $20-35).
- Coil OK but weak flow: mineral deposits inside the valve body restrict the plunger. Replace the valve.
Household Water Pressure
Minimum for Amana washers: 20 psi. Test with a pressure gauge ($8 at hardware stores) on a nearby hose bib. If pressure drops below 20 psi while the washer fills, the supply is insufficient — contact a plumber.
Situations that commonly cause low pressure:
- Well pump with low capacity
- Irrigation system running simultaneously
- Multiple showers or fixtures in use during wash

Pressure Sensor False F8 E1
If the tub fills normally but F8 E1 still shows, the pressure transducer is not detecting the rising water level. See F3 E1 diagnosis — the same pressure hose, air dome, and transducer components can cause both codes depending on the failure mode.
