Amana Washer F20: No Water Reaching the Tub
F20 on an Amana front load washer indicates a water inlet problem — no water, or an insufficient water supply reaching the machine.

The code points outward, not inward#
F20 is unusual among washer codes because most of what it accuses sits outside the cabinet. The machine asked for water, counted on receiving it, and did not get enough. Everything between the wall and the inlet valve is therefore in scope before any internal component is.
That ordering saves people a great deal of money. A washer that reports F20 is frequently a perfectly healthy washer attached to a faucet somebody closed, a screen nobody has cleaned since installation, or a hose bent flat behind the machine.

The three questions to answer#

Clearing the code#
- Confirm both faucets are fully open — not cracked open, fully open.
- Check the inlet screens where the hoses meet the washer, and clear anything collecting there.
- Straighten the inlet hoses and give the machine enough clearance from the wall that they stay straight when it is pushed back.
- Reset the control: if your washer is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for 5 minutes and then plug the unit back in.
The reset belongs last. A control that has latched F20 while the supply was genuinely restricted will keep reporting it until the supply is fixed, so resetting first only costs you the five minutes.

Worth fixing?#
In the ordinary case there is nothing to fix and nothing to buy. Opening a faucet, rinsing a screen and straightening a hose are the whole repair, and they are the reason this code has such a high rate of resolution without a technician.
Where it becomes a service conversation is when the supply is verifiably good — both faucets open, screens clear, hoses straight — and F20 returns anyway. The parts associated with this code are the water inlet screen, the water inlet hose and the control panel, and which of those is responsible is a measurement rather than a guess. Replacing the wrong one is the expensive way to find out.
