Why a red light here is good news#
Almost every other indicator on a dishwasher exists to report trouble, so a red one reads as a warning by instinct. This one reverses the convention. Amana uses it to close the loop on the Sani Rinse option: when the machine finishes that option the way it is supposed to, the indicator glows to say so. If you see it after a load, the load is done and nothing wants your attention.
Which means the interesting question is the opposite of the one most people arrive with. The light coming on is normal. The light not coming on is the signal worth reading.

That second row is the whole diagnosis. An indicator that never activates points at an interrupted cycle rather than a failed one, so the first thing to establish is whether the cycle was allowed to run start to finish.
How to check and clear it#
- Run a Sani Rinse cycle and leave it alone until it ends on its own — an uninterrupted run is the only condition under which the indicator is expected to light.
- If the indicator still stays dark, reset the control. On a dishwasher plugged into an outlet, unplug the unit for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
- On a hard-wired dishwasher, turn off the breaker that powers it at the home electrical panel for 30 seconds, then turn the breaker back on.
- Run one more uninterrupted Sani Rinse cycle and watch the end of it.
A reset costs nothing but time, and it is the listed remedy here because a control that has lost track of the option will not report on it either.

Not on its own. A glowing indicator is the machine working, and a missing one after an interrupted cycle is user-side. What moves it into repair territory is a specific, narrow case: the indicator stays dark after an uninterrupted cycle and a full power reset. At that point the part carrying the indicator — the control panel — is the component in question, and confirming that is a diagnosis rather than a guess you should make from the front of the machine.
