Samsung Gas Oven Burner Glows But Won't Light
A Samsung gas oven burner that glows but never lights is almost always a weak igniter that no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve. Watch it during preheat — if it reaches only dim orange and nothing ignites within 90 seconds, replace the igniter before you suspect the valve or the control board.
Most Likely Causes#
On a Samsung gas range the igniter and the safety valve work as a pair: the igniter must draw enough amperage (typically 3.2-3.6 amps) to pull the valve open. As it ages it still glows but drops below that threshold, so gas never releases — the most common no-light failure. Igniter and valve#
The flat igniter sits at the base of the cavity near the burner. It should brighten from dark to orange-white within 60 seconds; a Samsung igniter degrades gradually and may work some days and fail others as it hovers near its opening current. Do not confuse it with the surface-burner sparker or the 22,000 BTU Rapid Boil cooktop burner — those use a separate ignition system.
Sensor and board#
The rear-wall thermistor reads about 1,080-1,100 ohms at room temperature (70°F); a reading outside the 1,000-1,200 ohm band means the sensor is failing. An open circuit shows SE or SE1 and the oven refuses to run, while a gradual drift throws no code but bakes wrong. Board relays can weld closed and drive an over-temp E-27, or fail open; codes E-08 (bake element) and E-54 (door-lock motor) point at specific board or component faults.
