Frigidaire Refrigerator Control Board
Board replacement is worthwhile on a Frigidaire refrigerator under 8 years old. Frigidaire sits in the budget-to-midrange tier, so apply the 50% rule strictly: if the repair passes half the price of a comparable new unit, put the money toward the replacement. Gallery and Professional models justify higher repair…
Decide by age and repair size#
| Age | Low cost | Mid cost | High cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 3 years | Repair | Repair | Repair |
| 3-5 years | Repair | Repair | Evaluate |
| 5-8 years | Repair | Evaluate | Replace |
| 8-12 years | Evaluate | Replace | Replace |
| Over 12 years | Replace | Replace | Replace |
Verify the diagnosis before you authorise anything#
Control board symptoms overlap with far cheaper faults. A failed relay, a blown fuse or a loose wire harness can imitate a dead board and cost a fraction to put right. Insist on a confirmed diagnosis, not a guess, before anyone orders a board.
Two checks are worth making yourself first:
- Reset it. Unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes and plug it back in. On models with a control panel, hold Power Cool and Power Freeze together for 5 seconds once power returns. If the fault comes straight back, the board has a genuine hardware failure.
- Read the symptom carefully. If the light works but the fridge is not cooling, that tells you the light circuit is fine and says nothing about the compressor circuit. The candidates there are a failed compressor start relay, a failed inverter board, a failed main control board, or a failed compressor — and diagnosis should start with the cheapest of those and work upward.

Two more things to do before paying#
Check the warranty. Frigidaire may cover certain components beyond the standard one-year period. Call Frigidaire support with your model and serial number — you may be eligible for free or discounted parts.
Get a second opinion. Pricing for the identical repair varies between service providers, so a high estimate is worth testing against another quote. Our diagnostics are free and carry no obligation.
What tips the decision#
- Delivery and installation. A new refrigerator brings a delivery window, disposal fees for the old unit, and possible changes to cabinetry, plumbing or electrical connections. Those hidden costs belong on the replacement side of the ledger.
- Parts availability. Frigidaire typically stocks parts for 10-15 years after a model is discontinued. If yours is nearing that edge, repairing now — while the board is still available and affordable — is the safer move.
- Cascading failure risk. If the board died from a surge, water damage or chronic overloading, the cause has to be addressed alongside the part. Otherwise the new board meets the same end.
- Brand familiarity. Buying another Frigidaire means you already know the product line, but new models can differ in features, dimensions and connection requirements in ways that affect installation.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Refrigerant (R-134a/R-600a) requires EPA certification to handle. Improper discharge is a federal violation and health hazard. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

On price#
Frigidaire parts can run 10-30% more than generic equivalents, and the trade-off is real: factory parts guarantee proper fit and keep warranty coverage intact, while aftermarket options exist for most Frigidaire refrigerator parts at lower cost. On a younger unit under warranty, take the factory part; on an older one out of coverage, the aftermarket board is a reasonable economy.
