Electrolux Refrigerator OP: Compressor Overload Protection
Electrolux Inverter Compressors
Premium Electrolux refrigerators use variable-speed inverter compressors that adjust output to match cooling demand. These compressors run quieter and more efficiently than fixed-speed units. However, OP on an inverter model can indicate an inverter board failure rather than a traditional overload, because the inverter controls the compressor speed electronically.
Do You Have the Right Tools?
Refrigerant gauges ($200+), vacuum pump ($250), leak detector ($150), and EPA-certified recovery equipment. Our technician arrives with $15K+ in professional tools — your diagnostic is free.

Common Causes
Dirty condenser coils. Same as Frigidaire: dust prevents heat dissipation. Clean coils from underneath (remove front grille).
Failed start relay/capacitor. On non-inverter Electrolux models, the start relay helps the compressor accelerate. A rattling relay has failed.
Inverter board failure (inverter models). The inverter board converts DC to variable-frequency AC for the compressor. A failed inverter cannot drive the compressor, and the overcurrent protection trips. Inverter board: $80-$150.
Sealed system issue. Low refrigerant or restricted capillary tube.
Diagnosis
- Clean condenser coils. Unplug 30 minutes. Plug in. If compressor starts and runs, coils were the issue.
- On non-inverter models: check start relay (shake test).
- On inverter models: listen at startup. A clicking relay followed by humming then shutdown = inverter issue. The inverter board is a separate module mounted near the compressor.

Safety First — Know the Risks
Refrigerant (R-134a/R-600a) requires EPA certification to handle. Improper discharge is a federal violation and health hazard. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

FAQ
Does the inverter compressor affect OP diagnosis? Yes. Inverter models add the inverter board as a failure point that standard models lack.
Is the Electrolux inverter compressor quieter? Significantly. At low-speed operation, the compressor produces 35-38 dB versus 42-45 dB for fixed-speed.
Can I clean Electrolux condenser coils myself? Yes. Remove the front grille, use a long brush and vacuum. Same as Frigidaire.
