Bosch Home Connect Firmware Updates: Check & Fix
Bosch Home Connect appliances update automatically over the cloud during standby, and when an update stalls it is almost always a dropped Wi-Fi session — reconnect and power-cycle before assuming the update itself failed. Bosch ships only one or two conservative updates per year.
How Bosch handles firmware#
BSH Group manages firmware for Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau on the shared Home Connect platform, and its approach is deliberately conservative. Updates are extensively tested and focus on bug fixes and connectivity, not new features, so you will not see new cycles arrive by firmware. Bosch uses Wi-Fi Direct for initial setup but delivers updates over standard Wi-Fi, and North American and European models can be on different schedules.
Checking your version#
Open Home Connect, select the appliance, then the menu, then About Appliance, then Software Version. Some Bosch dishwashers also show the version on the appliance under Settings then Info. Thermador ovens reveal it by holding the clock button for a few seconds to enter the diagnostic display.

Fixing a stalled update#
Work through connectivity in order. First confirm the appliance shows Connected in the app — Bosch modules enter deep sleep sooner than Samsung or LG, so they disconnect more often. Power-cycle at the appliance's power button (not just standby) for 60 seconds, or use the breaker on built-in units. If it still won't take, delete the appliance from Home Connect and re-run setup: hold Start about 3 seconds until Con appears, then re-pair. Bosch's Wi-Fi Direct setup mode can also interfere with the regular connection — if the appliance keeps returning to Con mode, power-cycle and leave it untouched for a few minutes so it can switch back to standard Wi-Fi.
App updates versus firmware updates#
These are independent. The Home Connect app updates from your app store every few weeks; appliance firmware updates only once or twice a year. An out-of-date app can block proper communication with updated firmware, and brand-new app features may not work until the appliance firmware catches up — so keep the app current either way.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Appliances involve high voltage (120-240V), pressurized water, gas lines, and chemical refrigerants. Over 400 DIY repair injuries are reported yearly. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Thermador and Gaggenau notes#
Thermador connected ovens and cooktops receive the same firmware as the equivalent Bosch models, but their extra guided-cooking recipe features can depend on a specific version — if those stop working, a pending update is a likely cause. Gaggenau uses the same mechanism but is supported separately, so contact Gaggenau directly for firmware issues on those appliances.
When it really needs a technician#
If the display shows a fault code after an update or the appliance becomes unresponsive, the control module may need reflashing with Bosch's proprietary service tool — a technician task, not a DIY one. Bosch firmware is one-way, so you cannot roll back yourself; a service tech may be able to reflash a specific version, but it isn't guaranteed. Cooking, washing, and dishwashing all work without any of this — only the connected features depend on it.
The Real Cost of DIY
Average DIY attempt: $150-400 in tools you may use once, plus the risk of further damage. Our diagnostic visit costs $0 — we find the problem and give you an honest quote.

Frequently Asked Questions#
Why does Bosch update less often than Samsung or LG?#
BSH tests extensively and ships fewer, more stable releases focused on reliability and connectivity rather than new features. You won't get new cycles by firmware — only fixes.
Do Bosch appliances need the internet to work?#
No. All cooking, washing, and dishwashing functions run without internet or the app. Only remote monitoring, recipe transfer, and notifications need connectivity.
Can I roll back Bosch firmware?#
No — updates are one-way. If one causes trouble, a technician may reflash a specific version with Bosch's service tool, but that isn't guaranteed.
The bottom line#
Bosch's conservative update cadence means a stalled update is almost always a dropped Wi-Fi session, not a broken appliance — reconnect, power-cycle, and keep the app current before assuming anything failed.
