Washer Dryer Combo Power Requirements at a Glance#
A washer-dryer combo does both jobs in one drum. The ventless model condenses moisture instead of using a blazing element, so it runs on 120 volts at 10 to 15 amps and a 15-to-20-amp outlet — a 5-15R or 5-20R. A vented combo brings back the drying element at 20 to 24 amps on a 30-amp, 240-volt dryer circuit with a 14-30R outlet. The table above splits them.
Washer Dryer Combo Electrical Specifications#
| Configuration | Voltage | Amps | Watts (max load) | Breaker | Outlet (NEMA) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 120-volt ventless washer-dryer combo | 120 V | 10–15 A | 1,200–1,800 W | 15–20 A | 5-15R / 5-20R |
| 240-volt vented washer-dryer combo | 240 V | 20–24 A | 4,800–5,400 W | 30 A | 14-30R |
A washer-dryer combo does both jobs in a single drum, and the ventless models pull off the drying half by condensing moisture with a heat pump or a cool-water rinse instead of a blazing resistive element, which keeps the whole appliance on an ordinary apartment outlet. Step up to a vented 240-volt combo and the drying element returns, dragging the unit back toward a dryer-sized circuit.

Circuit and Breaker Sizing for the Washer Dryer Combo#
The drying method decides the circuit. A ventless combo has no heavy resistive element — it dries by condensing moisture with a heat pump or a cool-water rinse — so at 10 to 15 amps it lives on an ordinary 15-to-20-amp apartment branch, 12-gauge copper for the 20-amp version. A vented combo reintroduces a resistive drying element, dragging the draw to 20 to 24 amps and onto a 30-amp, 240-volt circuit wired in 10-gauge, exactly like a standalone dryer. That is the fork: no element means a normal outlet; an element means a dryer circuit.
Installation and Safety Notes for Washer Dryer Combo Wiring#
Match the cord to the outlet the model demands. A ventless combo plugs into a grounded 5-15R or 5-20R receptacle on a standard branch, which is its whole appeal for an apartment. A vented combo takes a 30-amp dryer cord terminating in a 14-30R plug on a dedicated 240-volt circuit. Running a new 240-volt branch for a vented unit is permit-and-inspection work and a licensed electrician's job; a ventless unit on an existing branch usually is not. Confirm which version you have before assuming an ordinary outlet will serve.
