Stackable Washer-Dryer Dimensions: Ceiling Height
A stacked pair stands 66 to 79 inches tall, but the height that matters is yours minus the 4 to 6 inches the top dryer door needs to swing clear. A 79-inch full-size stack therefore wants about 83 inches of clear height, not 79.
How big is a stackable washer-dryer?#
Stacked laundry is sold on height, and the height on the box is never the height you need. Above the machine, 4 to 6 inches has to stay free so the top dryer door can open under the ceiling or shelf; behind it, another 4 to 6 inches goes to hoses, drain and vent. Measure floor to the underside of the ceiling or shelf, and wall to the back of the closed door. Then read your numbers off the left column.

A real pair’s stacked height is the two model sheets plus the kit between them, so treat these spans as the range that tells you which stack type to shortlist, not as the number you plan the closet to.
Installation clearances for a stackable washer-dryer#
- Ceiling clearance: 4–6 in in above a stacked washer-dryer so the top dryer door still opens under the ceiling.
- Stacking kit: A stackable washer-dryer needs the matching bracket kit to lock the dryer to the washer safely.

Behind the column, allow 4 to 6 inches for the hoses, vent, and drain. In a laundry closet, the door opening must clear a 30-to-34-inch depth so the doors can close over the unit. Confirm the width — 24 inches for a compact stack, up to 28 inches for a laundry center — against the closet frame before delivery.
