Frigidaire Gas Stove Burner Won't Turn Off
A Frigidaire burner that stays lit with the knob turned off is a mechanical fault — a stripped knob shaft or a worn gas valve — not electronics, and it's a safety issue to handle now. Shut the gas at the wall valve behind the range first, then keep hands off the burner. On these common budget ranges the knob is worth…
Frigidaire runs the Electrolux gas platform, and these ranges see heavy everyday use in kitchens and rentals, so the knob assembly is a frequent wear point. The knob grips a flatted shaft on the valve; turn it enough times over the years and the knob's socket or the shaft rounds off, so the knob spins freely while the valve underneath stays open. With the gas shut off, pull the knob and inspect the shaft and its socket — rounded flats mean a fresh knob might be the whole repair. Try one: if a good knob now turns the shaft and the burner shuts off cleanly, you're done cheaply.
If a solid knob turns the shaft and gas still flows, the fault is inside the valve. Grease and years of heat cycling wear the valve's seat so it no longer closes fully at "off," and a gas valve can't be reliably cleaned back to a tight shut-off — it's replaced. The same goes for a broken closing spring, the little spring that snaps the valve shut; when it fails, gas pressure can drift the valve open, and since it isn't a separate part, the valve is replaced whole.
Keep it safe, hand off the valve#
Leave the gas shut at the wall and don't run the range until it's fixed — a valve that won't seat can leak even while the burner is lit. Valve replacement means opening the gas manifold, pulling the control panel, and leak-testing afterward, so while a knob swap is approachable, the valve is a licensed technician's job. Never force the knob, either: a snapped stem leaves gas flowing with no off short of the wall.

Before the holidays#
A burner you can only shut off at the wall is not one to rely on through a season of long cooking days. If a fresh knob doesn't fix it, have the valve replaced before the holidays rather than working around it — book a visit while it can still be a scheduled repair.
