Electrolux Gas Stove Burner Won't Ignite: Causes

Listen before you disassemble#

Turn a surface burner to light. Clicking without a flame means the ignition works and the burner is the problem; no click on any burner means the spark module feeding them all has quit; silence on just one burner means that electrode or its wire. That one observation decides whether you clean a burner or order a part.

Clicks, no flame#

• Take off the cap and head and let any dampness — a boil-over, a wet wipe — dry off; moisture shorts the spark.
• Push a straight pin through each port, skipping the toothpick that can break off and plug one.
• Reseat the cap flat so the spark reaches the gas; a cap sitting cocked misfires.
• Eye the ceramic electrode for a crack or a wide, sooted gap; it should sit a hair off the burner rim.

The oven side#

An Electrolux oven burner sits behind a safety valve that opens only once the glow igniter pulls full current. The catch is that a worn igniter still glows — it just can't draw enough to release the gas. If yours lights up but crawls to full brightness, taking much longer than the minute or so a healthy one needs, or reads high on a meter, it's spent even though it glows. Glow igniters last a few years; the solid-state surface sparkers go far longer.

Before the holiday cooking#

A burner that catches on the second or third try is nearly done, and it'll quit on the day the kitchen is busiest. If the oven has been slow to light through the fall, have the igniter's draw measured and swapped before the holidays, not during. To confirm the igniter and valve, book a visit.

A couple more checks#

Make sure the gas is fully open and other gas appliances run, and check the wiring behind the range for loose spade terminals or rodent damage — a nicked wire produces exactly this on-and-off ignition.
